Rhythm of the Animals by Alex Mannion

Under a lamp of blazing sun,
the animals of the plain run.

Striped zebra, hooves beat,
safe in a group if lion meet.

Racing, pacing, long grass trample,
Buffalo bodies, warm and ample.

Low and proud, lion growl,
hide in grass, seek and prowl.

Giraffe, watchful, tall and calm,
munching leaf, with long-necked charm.

Tails flick, nostrils flare,
Swish away the sunny glare.
Dusty pelt, matted mane,
Hardy dwellers of the plain.

Sleepy animals, hooves slow,
Sun goes down, land aglow.
